CLEAN AIR SOLUTION : OCW Metal Work Inc. Case Study

It’s been 7 months and change since I joined Translas North America. A Dutch Welding Technology Company that manufactures Welding Fume Extraction Machines. I came from a different Business Corporate background & culture which I’ve gotten to love – the Electronics, Computer, and I.T. industry. It was all about Technology and its advanced development. Seeing, for example, the progression in data storage system when it started with large reel tape, then floppy disc, to 2.5” diskette, to HDD, and now SSD & now Cloud Mass Storage! Not to mention the Enterprise Mass Storage System which is entirely different in physical structure.

If I’m an ordinary Joe with a low level of awareness on data mass storage systems, I would wonder – where in the Cloud are you keeping my data!? It’s marvellous, actually. The growth aspect of every Industry is amazing and astonishing.

Vacuum OFF / ON

So, 7 months ago, I never thought I would be joining an organization that is a significant player in the Welding Industry. All along in my mind, welding is nothing more than just bonding two metals together. That’s what interests me. And yet to my very surprise! I’ve seen a welding unit that is thoroughly helpful both in the production efficiency and a real environment-friendly machine! When I joined Translas North America, I didn’t raise any expectations of advanced technology. But I was wrong! Totally wrong! And I feel ignorant about it. There is advancement in this area. And Translas is leading it. The improvement is in the area of ridding the environment of so much welding fumes and keeping the workers healthier.

At first, I wasn’t totally convinced that this Welding Fume Extraction can draw the welding fumes away right from the source~ more so with 98% of it right out from the welding point – from the source! It’s awe-inspiring to watch. Just look at the picture here. Notice the absence of fumes!? That is MIG Welding you are seeing not laser.

I’m loving this job because I find myself being part of a major contributor in helping the environment be clean, more breathable, and helping the welders lessen their burdens in their health’s impact. I can call myself an environmentalist, if I may say so. No pun intended.

And also, because I am relatively new in the job, I have to continually know more about the products that complete this incredible Fume Extraction Machine. And among the things that I need to know is to learn how to maintain it. Keeping the machine in its Tip Top Condition. An owner must keep these machines up and about because they don’t come cheap! It’s like maintaining your expensive vehicle. Mind you, doing the cleaning or maintaining the Translas Fume Extraction Machine is nothing but waiting. It’s very very easy. I turn on the machine, make sure there’s air suction, and it’s working perfectly. Turn it off again. And plug-in your air compressor. Then press another button to make the machine clean by itself.

Just make it run several times to ensure the filters get rid of its combustible, deadly, toxic metal dust & wastes. So, I did all those, and look what it got me! See the pan of waste from doing the auto clean 4 times! Four 4 times I got the same amount of toxic dust. The last is almost nothing left to tell me that the machine is clean, though. The result of this practice is what prompted me to tell you how significantly helpful these fume extraction machines are in ridding of those poisonous fumes during the welding process. Using these machines not only gives the working environment cleaner air to breathe but also gives a cleaner Bill Of Health to the welders. This changes things. This Translas Fume Extraction machine changes the ball game of welding. It’s no longer that dirty and filthy and toxic environment.
